The Langerock's original home was in Belgium and the family line has been traced back over 20 generations. The original language spoken was Flemish.  Most of the work done to create the family tree was done by Paul Langerock who still resides in Belgium.   The family tree contains doctors, artists, CEO's and dozens of other professions of note.

Our immediate family came from Belgium when my grandmother and father immigrated and arrived at Ellis Island July 29th, 1913 from Antwerp.   My father was 2 at the time they arrived at Ellis Island. The information that follows was taken from the Ellis island website.

The ship they arrived on was built for Red Star Line, British flag, in 1900 and named Vaderland. It provided  Antwerp-New York service. It was chartered by International Navigation Company, British flag, in 1915 and renamed Southland. It was put into troopship service. Torpedoed in the Aegean Sea on 9/2/1915, but salvaged and repaired. Torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine off the Irish coast on May 4, 1917 Built by John Brown & Company, Clydebank, Scotland, 1900. 11,899 gross tons; 580 (bp) feet long; 60 feet wide. Steam quadruple expansion engines, twin screw.  Service speed 15 knots.  1,162 passengers (342 first class, 194 second class, 626 third class). Two funnels and four masts.

I am including below text and a picture from Paul's home page.  If you would like more information on the family tree, I would encourage you to visit Paul's home page at the following link  www.langerock.be

Who are the Langerock's ?

The Langerock family is originated from Ghent (Gent, Gand), Belgium.

There are Langerock's all over the world mainly in Belgium but also in the U.S.

We have discovered 10 generations so far.

Famous Langerock's :

Pierre Langerock (1859-1923) : architect, neo-gothic buildings

Henri Charles Langerock (1830-1915) : painter, landscape paintings  http://henrilangerock.com

Lydia Langerock (?): writer, poems

Hubert Langerock (?) : writer, sociologist

Spelling :

The name Langerock in the actual spelling form has been seen since the 18th century.

But the former spelling should have been Lanckrock.

That name is still in use today in Belgium but is rather marginal.

By the meantime a cousin of me named Jean Langerock took over my work by contacting the living langerock's by creating a newsletter and by printing the tree.

He also successfully organized a meeting with many Langerock's in Ghent on the 28th of March 2005.

See below the picture taken that day.
